City On Fire: A Novel of Pompeii, By Tracey L. Higley - Book Review

City On Fire: A Novel of Pompeii

By Tracy L. Higley

Ariella is a young Jewish slave-girl, who is angry at God, and no longer trusts in Him because she believes he let her suffer through the pain of losing her beloved family, and allowed her to be sold to her terribly cruel master in Rome. She manages to escape her evil master and disguise herself as a young man, and join the gladiator troupe. She ends up in Pompeii, Rome's capital city, to fight for her freedom, and her life.
Cato is a politician who fled to Pompeii to get away from his past failures in Rome, and to try to start a new life, though he discovers that Pompeii is just as dangerous and troubled as Rome was. Cato believes the citizens deserve justice from the horrible man that controls the city, and fights for their rights with the help of his allies, a group of Christians. This is a great fiction book that I would recommend for adults and maybe teens, depending on how mature you are.

Just Wanted To Mention... - Welsh Corgis-

Photograph:Cardigan Welsh corgi.Today, I wanted to mention one of my favorite dog breeds, Welsh Corgis! There are two types of corgis, the Cardigan Welsh Corgi (shown on the top left), and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi (shown on the top right). Both Corgis originated in Wales,
U.K., and the Pembroke is popular in England, U.K. because Queen Elizabeth II owns 10 of them, and keeps at least four corgis with her most of the time (shown on the lower left). But all in all, both are highly intelligent, loyal, and great herding dogs, but because of this, they tend to nip playfully at the heels.

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi varies in color, and has a short or medium length coat, and the Pembroke Welsh Corgi mainly has a coat color combination of a tan, red, caramel, or black with small bit of white here and there, and they have a thick, medium length coat, and both shed a lot.

(My family has a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and he is the best dog we've had!)

Getting Crafty - Bookmarks

I love crafts, so I decided to make these fun little bookmarks! They're super easy to make, so keep reading and I'll show you how to make them. Let's get down to business!

First, you are going to need the following:

1. A flat surface
2. A pencil
3. A glue stick
4. A ruler
5. Scissors
6. The construction paper of your choice

Now, draw out three 2 1/2 x 2 1/2" squares in a "L" shape, like so.

Next, cut out your squares(don't cut them apart!).

Now, fold over where I drew the dotted lines, one flap over the other.

Crease the flaps, then glue them together. It's best if you put the smaller flap on bottom. Trim the edges if necessary.

This is the fun part. Now, decorate it! I made a One Direction bookmark for my friend, and all I did was copy an image from the internet. Important note: make sure NOT to glue these things upside down!

And, this is the finished product! Hope you enjoyed this little craft!
